100 miles to go…

9 May 2011 by Jessyca Dudley

Every day more than 7,000 people contract HIV—more than 300 every
hour. And, nearly 1.2 million Americans are now living with HIV. That
is why over the next several months I will train to ride the Wriggle
Field Road Tour. The Wrigley Field Road Tour (WFRT) which takes place
August 27th is an annual 100mi bike ride from historic Wrigley Field
in Chicago, IL to Miller Park in Milwaukee WI, benefiting the global
work of World Bicycle Relief, the community work of Chicago Cubs
Charities, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and other organizations
fighting to end HIV/AIDS.

I first become involved with WFRT through the AIDS Foundation of Chicago after returning from Peace Corps service in South Africa. During my Peace Corps service I had worked in HIV/AIDS outreach and worked with my community to develop screening and intervention programs. After returning I wanted to stay involved in this important work and interned with AFC. AFC is leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Chicago area by funding prevention programs and services such as medical care, food and housing, to stop the spread of HIV and help people live full and productive lives until the day there’s a cure. After working with such an amazing organization of people I joined their Junior Board and am taking part in the Wrigley Field Road Tour as part of my commitment to raising money to benefit the organizations that benefit the more than 33 million people worldwide now living with HIV/AIDS. My goal is to raise $2,000 and make it all 100 miles to Milwaukee. If you are interested in learning more about the ride, the organizations or making a contribution please visit my page:
