Dimapur, April 30 (MExN): Nagaland joined the rest of the world in observing World AIDS Orphans Day at the State level on May 7, 2008. Nagaland joined the cause with a view to provide care and support for children who have been orphaned and abandoned and in order to enable them to enjoy the basic human rights, dignity, development and empowerment.

To mark this event, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) along with FXB Suraksha has decided to organize a State level programme at the State Academy Hall. Important personalities/NGOs/Artistes will address/perform at the function.

A special programme for slogan competition on AIDS orphans entitled “I am positive” is being organized for students of class VIII to XII. The slogans are required to be submitted to NSACS office, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare or emailed to nagalandsacs@gmail.com by May 4, 2010 without fail. The winners will be decided by a Board constituted by NSACS which shall be final, and the result will be declared during the function. Cash prizes of Rs. 1000/- each will be awarded for the ten (10) best slogans.

IEC Wing, NSACS in a press release informed that the competition is being organised as an effort to make one say “I am positive that I can stop all discrimination, ill-treatment and exploitation of children affected by AIDS.” This year’s theme “I am Positive” can be perceived from three different angles/perspectives by various stakeholders involved in protecting children affected by AIDS; positive status of an HIV affected/infected child, positive attitude of the Social Worker who can make a difference in the child’s life and positive response from the community by being compassionate and contributing to the well-being of the child in the society.
