Wednesday night, more than 12 million American’s tuned in to watch some of the world’s most famous stars perform and raise funds to address the world’s most pressing challenged. Celebrities have long played the role of activist and advocate on the AIDS crisis. In 1991, AIDS was in full swing. That year, AIDS activists and several NGO’s teamed up to establish the red ribbon as the international symbol of AIDS awareness. Soon after, the ribbon was pinned to the lapels of every celebrity on the red carpet. It was a turning point in winning the country’s hearts and minds to address the scourge of HIV/AIDS.
Let us work together now for AIDS orphans.
