UNICEF's recently published "The State of the World's Children" and "Children and AIDS: Second Stocktaking Report" which contain current information, recent advancements, statistics and strategies regarding global childcare.

"The State of the World's Children" is a summary of recent reports on child survival, primary healthcare for mothers, newborns and children. The report also outlines strategies for reducing under-five deaths and plans for future care, including regional summaries and statistical information. Essential healthcare services are examined, with hopeful strategies for future progress. The report highlights that these strategies "span from initiatives targeted towards a single disease or condition, such as malaria or under nutrition, to the ideal of providing a continuum of comprehensive primary-health-care services that integrate hospital and clinical facilities, outpatient and outreach services, and household and community-based care."

The "Children and AIDS: Second Stocktaking Report" reviews recent advances and reports about HIV/AIDS among children, including important improvements in the areas of mother-to-child transmission, HIV prevention and paediatric treatment. Progress and achievements in the area of mother-to-child transmission in recent years have been significant: "Most countries are making substantial progress towards preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa". Furthermore, recent advancements in the providing of paediatric HIV care and treatment is significant: "In all regions, more children were getting antiretroviral treatment in 2006 than they were in the year before". The report also notes the increasing need for improved guidelines, norms and standards. Stats and facts about 157 countries and territories are included in the report.
