The future of AIDS-affected children looks hopeful after multiple speakers at the International AIDS Conference focused on the importance of distributing funds to affected children and their families.

Last week, the International AIDS Conference held in Mexico City addressed one of the most pressing issues in the battle against HIV/AIDS: children affected by the virus. Several doctors and members of the UN stressed the need for the allocation of funding towards children. Only a small percentage of AIDS funding goes to children, and very few receive antiretroviral treatment. Representatives of JLICA, the Joint Learning Initiave on Children and HIV/AIDS, stressed the importance of supporting families and building communities in order to assist children affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. Governments and donors were urged to focus on the plight of AIDS orphans, and to provide sustainable options for their families and communities.
