PLAS will be hosting a talk show with the title No Distance: Paint a True-to-Life Picture of AIDS Orphans--See Africa as It Really Is--on Sunday, May 24th, starting at 3:00 in the afternoon at J-POP CAFÉ J-ATRIUM FLOOR in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Founded in 2005, PLAS: Positive Living through AIDS Orphan Support is a Japan-based NGO, working to protect underprivileged children who have been orphaned by the AIDS pandemic, and the first as well as single AIDS service organization in Japan committed solely to improving a disadvantaged position of the AIDS orphans who have been stigmatized and often socially excluded from a village community.
We will have the following prominent figures and what is more, two real AIDS orphans from Uganda who have enrolled in college in Japan as our special guest speakers for this talk show!
Ms. Akiko Chubachi: a television personality and the winner of the third place of MISS UNIVERSE JAPAN in 2007.
Mr. HAPPY Danbara: a radio DJ, reporter, and m.c.
Christine and Ronald: AIDS orphans from Uganda and at present, undergraduates respectively at ICU and Waseda University.
The talk show will proceed according to the following program schedule;
1) A talk show by Ms. Chubachi to describe background information on the AIDS pandemic based on her valuable past experience of her trip to Africa, during which she saw Africa as it really was, and to share her thought over the current plight of AIDS orphans with us.
2) A live performance of African dance and music with an African drum: this will let you really feel and directly experience what Africa is like!
3) Another talk show by Christine and Ronald, real AIDS orphans from Uganda, to report on the actual circumstances of AIDS orphans based on their personal experiences, which will, for sure, allow you to know what conditions are really like in Africa in the midst of the AIDS pandemic.
The goal of this talk show shall be neither to highlight a tragic, pitiable aspect of AIDS orphans’ life, nor even to stir up in the populace a sense of impending crisis of Africa--by contrast, we want you very much to just see Africa as it really is and to bend your ear to the live voices of AIDS orphans during this one and a half hours that you’re going to spend in this talk show.
Our one wish is that all those present face a bare fact about AIDS orphans and see a true picture of present-day Africa--this is our one desire.
Throughout this talk show, what we all pray for is a bright future ahead of AIDS orphans, but not anxieties about their future--a smile appeared on the orphans’ face, we believe, promises a happy future that lies in their way!
Please note that a seating capacity of the hall is limited to 120 and that applications will close when this prescribed number of applicants for a seat is reached--so we strongly recommend you to book a seat as early as possible, particularly given that the tickets valid only for the day of the last year’s show that we had ready in advance all went shortly after the hall opened.
As to this ticket, please also note that there is an admittance fee of 1,000 yen for students and 1,500 for all other adults and we ask all attendees to pay admission at a ticket window of the hall on May 24th.
Book a seat in advance? Here’s how to register!
Step 1: Contact Mr. Asano via email at waod@plas-aids.org, giving him your name and affiliation, the number of tickets that you need (and also please be sure to write clearly whether or not you are a student), as well as your contact address.
Step 2: Then Mr. Asano will issue an exchange ticket to you via email.
Step 3: Pay admission at a ticket window of the hall on May 24th--if you are a student, you might be required to show your student ID at the window. And all those who clarified payment will be able to make an order for a refreshing drink!
LOCATION: J-POP CAFÉ J-ATRIUM FLOOR, Shibuya BEARM, 31-2 Udagawa-Cho, Shibuya-Ku, Tokyo (about six minutes to Shibuya Station on foot).
