Narrated by Danny Glover, “Tiny Tears,” an uplifting and inspiring documentary about children living with HIV/AIDS is being released on cable (video on demand) starting May 1st, 2010 for a 90 day run. “Tiny Tears” had it’s world premier at The United Nations and has had screenings in Cannes as well as many other film festivals. This picture is director Robert Corna’s third documentary. The release coincides with World AIDS Orphans Day May 7th.

“Tiny Tears” was filmed in Thailand, Uganda, Brazil and the United States – all countries that have been at the center of the AIDS epidemic for the past 25 years. The film focuses on children whose lives have been affected by the virus – not only to create awareness, but also to inspire, for their strength teaches us a lesson about life:  the lesson that hope can be born out of tragedy.

In Thailand, the film follows ‘Bow,’ a young girl of great courage and resilience, who lives in the Agape Home, an orphanage for HIV positive children.

In Uganda, we meet ‘Nevernus,’ a boy whose kindness, humility, and dreams for the future are irrepressible, even in the face of devastating loss.

In Brazil, “Tiny Tears” focuses on the Viva Cazuza Society, founded by the mother of “Cazuza”, one of Brazil’s greatest rock stars and the first major Brazilian celebrity to publicly announce his HIV positive status.  It follows the lives of two boys, ‘Natalino’ and ‘Fabiano,’ and examines the way in which Brazilian society has responded to the AIDS epidemic in its own, forceful manner.

Finally, the film takes us back to America, where we visit Camp Dreamcatcher, a summer camp for children infected or affected by the disease.  These children are at a critical point in their lives: Never before has there been a generation of HIV/AIDS children who have matured with the disease, and now have the opportunity to plan for their own families.

“Tiny Tears” does not simply focus on children dying from this disease, but shows how their lives are made possible by the kindness of those who have nurtured them.

A “Tiny Tears” sequel is already in post-production. One child from each orphanage in each country visited was be flown to The United States to participate in ‘Camp Dreamcather’. “Bow” a little girl from Thailand was then flown to Dallas, Texas to receive life changing facial reconstruction that was not available to her in her native Thailand.

Director Robert Corna’s previous work was filmed in Southeast Asia. “TSUNAMI: The Renewal” explores the reconstruction that occurred in Thailand after the Tsunami hit.  “Mine” is in exploration of the effects of landmines in Cambodia.  He is presently in post-production on a documentary about the 2009 Italian Earthquake.
