May 7th is World AIDS Orphans Day, a grassroots campaign to draw attention to and advocate on behalf of the over 15 million children orphaned by AIDS.
Today, a diverse coalition of organizations, government officials and everyday citizens is urging the G8 and donor governments to ensure that 10% of all HIV and AIDS funding supports the needs of orphans and vulnerable children.
World AIDS Orphans Day is a grassroots campaign to draw attention to and advocate on behalf of the more than 15 million children orphaned by AIDS. Founded by FXB International, World AIDS Orphans Day began as a march on Wall Street in 2002 when activists held signs asking, “What is the value of an orphan on the NY Stock Exchange?”
Since 2002, thousands of people have participated in World AIDS Orphans Day events in more than 20 countries. Almost 800 mayors and elected officials in more than 40 countries have signed pledges advocating for the need to address the orphan crisis.
Today, a diverse coalition of organizations, government officials and everyday citizens is standing up to make children a priority in the fight against AIDS. We are pressing to ensure that 10% of all HIV and AIDS funding supports the needs of orphans and vulnerable children.
We need help to speak out and spread the word about World AIDS Orphans Day. Your voice is their future.
